Accounting Technicians are responsible for recording financial transactions for Defense Department appropriations and expenditures, attention to detail is highly important. Technicians classify, analyze, and summarize transactions; maintain, reconcile and close accounts; prepare control or post documents reflecting necessary entries; and prepare transaction-related reports and statements. DFAS relies on technicians to verify the accuracy and completeness of accounting and financial data.

Financial Analysts provide professional finance advice and assistance to their customers, i.e., Navy, Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, and other Department of Defense Agencies. Their primary function is to conduct reviews and analyses of financial programs or operations through examination of existing regulations, internal controls, functional requirements, policies and procedures, and transactions or system outputs.

Accountants work side-by-side with other team members in support of processing payments to millions of military and civilian personnel; disbursing millions of dollars in payments to contractors and vendors; performing millions of transactions that annually amount to more than a trillion dollars. The primary focus is to provide professional operational accounting services, management advice, and assistance to supported organizations.

You must have completed 24 semester hours in Accounting (up to 6 semesters of Business Law can be credited).
